Innovative Control Systems, Inc. and Tunnel Master were born out of necessity. In 1981, Kevin Detrick took over an abandoned car wash. After six years in the business, Kevin realized a need for a computerized management system. The industry only offered a POS, which is a management system without an integrated tunnel controller. This approach did not provide adequate cash control. After searching the market, he decided to build an integrated unit to meet the needs of the professional car wash operator.

Work started in 1988 on the original Tunnel Master DOS based tunnel controller. It featured many industry firsts, such as electrical isolation to protect vital system components, built-in diagnostics, and rugged industrial design and construction. The patented Cash Control was based on actual tunnel activity performed by the integrated controller. Management information was provided out of the same PC based controller. In 1991, Tunnel Master added point of sale to the system and was premiered nationally as a fully functional DOS based car wash management solution.

Recognizing the tremendous power of the Microsoft Windows operating system, Innovative Control Systems once again broke the mold in 1994 and introduced Tunnel Master for Windows^®, the first (and still the only) fully integrated point of sale, tunnel controller and management system.

Tunnel Master for Windows^® presents many new features to the car industry such as industrial standard relational database, data exportable to most Windows formats, hardware compatibility, ability to run multiple applications, networkability, chemical and utility monitoring. Tunnel Master is constantly improving on the original patented anti-theft and cash control measures.
